About Hedlin Family Farm

Who We Are

Hedlin Farms Fruit StandHedlin Farms been in operation since 1906 when it was founded by our (great) grandfather, Rasmus Koudal shortly after his arrival from Denmark.  While seed crops, primarily beet, spinach, and cabbage seed have been the constant thread on our farm over the last hundred years, the farm currently includes a greenhouse transplant and custom transplanting operation for the seed industry, wheat, pickling cucumbers and our fresh market operation which has grown over the last fifteen years from another berry and corn stand along the side of the road to a 50 acre market garden where we grow more than100 different varieties of Certified Organic crops and sprayfree greenhouse produce. Looking to the future as demand increases our crop mix is starting to include organic feed crops; silage corn, wheat, green chop and hay. Our farm is located near the mouth of the Skagit River, on the outskirts of the town of LaConner. Owned and operated by third generation David Hedlin and Serena Campbell, we continue to be a family operation, with sister Mary Hedlin, daugther Lauren Hedlin and nephew Kai Ottesen all working on the farm. We are committed to the longterm stewardship of our land and waters, the health of our workers, and to growing the highest quality produce the Magic Skagit has to offer.  We hope you'll join us!

Certifications

  • Certified Organic - All of our field grown fruits and vegetables are WSDA and USDA certified organic.
  • Pesticide Free - Our greenhouse vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, basil, eggplant and cucumbers) are pesticide free.   These crops are not certified organic because we do use some conventional fertilizer for our greenhouse vegetable production.
  • Salmon Safe Certification - This is a whole  farm certification that requires adherence to practices that safeguard salmon habitat.
  • Produce from other farms - Some things we do not  grow but are too good to pass up – ripe peaches for example.  We may occasionally include an item from other farms.  These items will always be from farmers with whom we have personal relationships and whose practices and philosophy match our own.  These items will be organic or pesticide free.  You will always be informed of the organic status of all items in your weekly pickup.
